Jedburgh Games Day 10th July 2004

 Cannon Firing

and the Race Round The Town

Jedburgh Games Day 2004, the Canon being fired in the Market Place at 6.00am

Onlookers from the ball at 6am fill the Market Place in Jedburgh. They waited for the Cannon to be fired 4 times and this was followed by the race round the town. (The above image is a composite of two photographs.)

The Jethart Callant usually 'wins' his race but the open race round the town has seen some desperate struggles and this years run must rate as one of the toughest fought contests. View other photographs by selecting the link at the base of the page.

Jedburgh holds its annual ball on the evening of Festival Friday followed by Games Day on the Saturday at Riverside Park, the home of Jedforest Rugby Football Club. Leaving the ball just before 6 a.m., the market place fills with onlookers and those still sober enough to stand having danced the night away at the Callants Ball. The highlight of the morning (other than bacon rolls and more drink) is the race round the town.

Callant Scott wins his race round the town ;-)

2004 Jethart Callant Clark Scott wins his race round the town. Jamie McCraw and Niki Hill (hidden) are hot on his heels followed by Herald John Mabon.

Kilts and 'trainers' are the order of the day as the more serious runners take to their heels round the town.

This years race round the town on Jedburgh Games Day was a hotly contested affair with the race leaders neck and neck for most of the final stretch.

A bad tumble virtually on the zebra crossing decided the outcome of the race.

Desparate stuff as these two fight for the line. They gave it all they had.
